365 Photography Project – 2014

I decided to take on a photo per day during 2014. I’m (anxiously) up for the challenge and hopefully there will be some self-discovery along the way. And that’s the reason for starting with a “selfie.” These upcoming 365 photos will be, to a great degree, a reflection of myself–so I plan to book-end the year with a selfie on Day 1 and Day 365. I certainly started things off with a bang on Day 1. Through the first couple test shots, the flash in the background was sitting just where I had put it. Well, as you can see, it all of a sudden made its way on to the hard floor below and ended up in 3 pieces. Miraculously, I was able to put it back together and it works perfectly! I hope it’s not a bad omen for 2014. Instead, I will try to use it as a metaphor– that even if things aren’t going as planned, they are just bumps in the road (or crashes on the floor), and we brush ourselves off and move forward. Here’s to 2014!

Are you going to use only one camera or many different ones?

PS. love your x100s camera shots – you were one of the reasons why I started to love x100s and talked about x100s so much that my GF made a present for me on 31.12

    • Oh, congrats on the present! Your GF is a wonderful person! I will be using a mix of X100s, Canon 5D3, and Galaxy S3 cellphone… and who knows, maybe even some film– although I haven’t shot any film for a couple years. Cheers!

I have just read your ‘365’ thread on the Fuji x forum on DPR. I have saved your blog so I can follow your project throughout the coming year. I think its a great idea to commit to something so long term and potentially taxing in a creative sense.
I’m going to try and visit this project most days and maybe comment every now and then if that’s ok.
I don’t think its something that I would have the stamina to complete, but if I can stay with you through your attempt, who knows what next year may bring.

Very good luck to you Brian, onwards & upwards.

    Very best

    • Thanks so much for following along! Yes, by all means, feel free to comment as often as you want. I hope I can inspire enough to want you to do your own. I hope I can keep up with it. So far, it’s not at all a burden and I’m excited about it.

So what happened with the project?

    July 3, 2014 at 2:53 am

    • Well, I’ve taken photos *almost* every single day of the year, but life has been a bit hectic– moving into a new house, renovating it, caring for my daughter, running a couple of business, trying to start a 3rd, etc., etc. So, I haven’t been keeping up with the project per se (obviously). I’m happy that I do keep photographing most days, but getting it up on the blog is a bit more challenging. Who knows– maybe at the end of the year, I’ll catch back up and just post all at once. How’s your camera treating you?

x100s is brilliant. I totally love it. Now fuji announced the new x100T.

I only need that fuji would add time-lapse function to x100s with firmware update :) Needing it for my night photography
